Bonus! 4-Page Hot Fuzz Video Game Strategy Guide Inside

| Ben Jarman |

Hot Fuzz plays in glorious 35mm at the Trylon Cinema from Sunday, June 14th, through Tuesday, June 16th. For tickets, showtimes, and other series information, visit trylon.org

The movie Hot Fuzz has many references to 80s and 90s action films and many of these films had Nintendo video game adaptations. The following pages are an attempt to create a strategy guide for an 8-bit Hot Fuzz adaptation that does not exist. Just imagine Edgar Wright’s movie coming out in 1990 with a licensed video game to help the producers with advertising.

Page one shows a banner for a video game, depicting characters Nicholas Angel (Simon Pegg) and Danny Butterman (Nick Frost) as stoic police officers, game stats, and two pixelated images of a swan and the main character, Angel. The framing is a black and white checkerboard pattern with a yellow and blue background.

Coming from the fields outside of town, boars take extra damage to defeat.
THUG
The streets of Sandford need cleaning. Wearing a variety of tracksuit colors, thugs are known to put up a good fight.
CULT
A secret cult of citizens runs the town. Wearing brown cloaks, these enemies carry knives to slow you down. Be brave even if they attack in large numbers.

TEXT STAGE 1 Operation Crackdown
Before moving to Sandford, Constable Angel participated in Operation Crackdown in London with the renowned SO19 armed response unit. He received a bravery award for efforts in the resolution of the operation.
BOSS: St. Nick
Take a little damage from Santa before going in for an attack. He will move backwards allowing you to strike him.
STAGE 2 Sandford Streets
Once on a new assignment in Sanford, shoplifting gangs appear in the small town. Constable Angel and Butterman hit the streets to bring justice. Watch out for pedestrians!
BOSS: P. Cocker
This giant thug is fast and easy to miss. Stay on the left corner of the screen and attack once, every time he passes.

The St. Vincent Church Festival is threatened by an unknown evil. Reach the top of the church by climbing unsteady ladders and jumping across dangerous platforms. Hurry upwards because the life of a citizen is on the line.
BOSS: Mr. Cult
A cult is behind the trouble at the festival. Mr. Cult cannot bend in his cloak, so duck and strike.
Page four shows stage four, a hand-drawn brick castle with torches and arched window, a still from the film of the head of the fourth boss, Lurch, without hair and looking frightened, stage five, a hand-drawn grocery store with shelves of colorful, boxed foods, red, purple, and orange produce, and the frozen section, a still from the film of two butchers with hats tossing knives (the fifth boss), stage six, a hand-drawn outdoor miniature model version of Sanford with bushes in the background, stage seven, a hand-drawn, three-story police station with wooden walls, desks, and filling cabinets, and a still from the film of a spiked, black naval mine. STAGE 5: Somerfield
The leader of the cult is hiding inside a Somerfield Grocery Store. Race through produce and the frozen foods to reach the butchers.
